AI investment in the UK

An interesting set of announcements on AI investment in the UK.
It’s difficult to unpick how much of this is because of the UK’s AI action plan, and how much is simply aligned but would have happened anyway.

In summary:

Microsoft has committed £22bn over four years to expand cloud capacity and build a new AI supercomputer.

NVIDIA has separately announced £11bn, focused on deploying up to 120,000 GPUs through new “AI factories” and partnerships.

Google has pledged £5bn for new data centres and to strengthen AI research.

Oracle announced a $5bn dollar investment.

This is part of a wider UK-US tech deal worth more than £31bn.

The announcements are coming quickly from multiple sources, with some cross over in the stories, so I may well have missed some! I’ve already edited once to add in Oracle!

The numbers feel big – the kind of scale needed to make a real difference in the UK. It also feels like an endorsement of both the skills and ambition we have here. So, a reason to feel positive about the UK’s AI ambitions?
